About
Meet Sue
Founder of Madrina Professional Pet Grooming, Sue grew up around dogs. With a soft spot for the many Poodles that filled her childhood home, Sue went on to study dog grooming professionally from the age of 21, following in the footsteps of her mother, Valerie – herself a show handler and breeder of Standard Poodles.
Sue went on to spend 14 years in sunny Cape Town, South Africa where she ran her own dog grooming salon, before returning to the UK and working in top salons around the Home Counties for several years until moving to the Isle of Man to be with her Mum during her retirement. Here in 2017 she opened Wagging Tails Dog Grooming Salon and faithfully served her IOM clients with diligence and creative flair.
But following the sad passing of Sue’s mother in June 2021, she chose to honour her with a rebranding of the grooming business, and Madrina Professional Pet Grooming was born.
Sue also has her own dog, a Border Collie named Romeo with whom she practises dog agility. Romeo used to be a regular fixture in the salon, but these days he can be found tripping the light fantastic at local doggy day care whilst Sue gives her full attention to her clients’ dogs!
The story of Madrina, from dog showing to dog grooming
As well as a skilled dog groomer, Sue’s mother Valerie was a professional dog show handler of Standard and Miniature Poodles. She had a renowned breeding line and regularly bred and showed Poodles across the UK. Valerie showed her dogs under the prefix “Madrina” for many years, and it became a name synonymous with class and style.
And so when she passed away in 2021, Sue felt it only proper to honour that style and class by renaming our Isle of Man dog grooming business Madrina Professional Pet Grooming, to acknowledge the indelible impact she had on Sue’s life and career, and so the name Madrina could live on.
“Sue always gives Mouse impeccable grooms and she seems to particularly enjoy her mud baths – the photos are great fun. Thanks!”

HOLISTIC ANIMAL CARE
It’s more than just making your dog look pretty…
We understand that dog grooming isn’t just a doggy haircut. We know that we are often the first line of defence against emerging health issues and we are trained to spot developing problems in your dog’s health that you may not notice as owners. Because we always go down to skin level with our bathing and grooming, we are able to identify medical issues at an early stage and bring them to your attention so that your dog can receive the proper veterinary care. What’s more, our K9 Jacuzzi spa bath services are able to soothe your dog if they’re suffering from injury, illness or muscle fatigue. By offering a bubble bath facility we are able to give our doggy clients an extra special treat that has been shown to soothe, calm, and alleviate pain.
