And with a full bath, nail trim and ear clean included in the price, there’s nothing not to love at Madrina.

What does a full groom involve?

When you arrive we will have a short consultation with you to discuss how you want your dog to look. Sue is on hand for advice if you need it on how to maintain your dog’s coat at home in-between grooms, and to advise on which style would suit their breed and your lifestyle. We also ask a number of health questions to ensure that a groom is suitable for your dog at that time, as well as establishing whether they have any allergies or issues we should be aware of.  Then it’s time for the groom!

  • First it’s time for an ear clean and nail clip, as well as giving your dog a once over to identify any issues such as matts and knots
  • Then we bathe your dog in our Hydrobath – our powerful and very popular bathing system! It provides deep cleaning of your dog’s coat and skin and we always use professional high quality shampoo and conditioner
  • A quick dry with professional blasters and a fluff-dry where necessary with hands free stand up dryer
  • Then we brush and comb their coat through to make sure that it is clear of any knots
  • Haircut time! Then we clip and scissor your dog’s coat to your requested style
  • And with a little spritz of doggy perfume to finish off (if you wish), the groom is complete!

*Price depends on breed, style and behaviour of dog and condition of coat on arrival.

Puppy Pamper Services – getting the young’uns used to grooming

Our grown-up dogs may find grooming a breeze, but for puppies it can be a whole other story.  That’s because everything is new to them: the sights, sounds and smells of the grooming salon, other dogs and people, and the very tactile process of grooming could be overwhelming if we don’t gently desensitise your pup first.  So from getting into a big bath to the sound and feel of the clippers, trimmers, dryers and high velocity blasters, we make sure to introduce them gradually to the grooming experience.

As soon as your puppy has had all necessary vaccinations they’re ready to start the grooming process! And the sooner they get used to grooming, the easier and less stressful it will be for them.

Please note all the below steps include lots of puppy cuddles (the best perk of the job) 💜

  1. Grooming socialisation. Your puppy will have a little sniff around to get used to the environment. A gentle brush through will be followed by a relaxing body wash using tearless, natural shampoo for puppies. This helps condition and add texture to their coats. A warm blow dry encourages your puppy to relax while learning to stand on the table. We will also advise on coat maintenance and give you some tips to work with your puppy at home.
  2. Step 1 plus an eye trim, little pad and feet trim and bottom tidy using scissors only.
  3. Step 1 & 2 plus introduction of trimmers (this is a whole new sensation) on hygiene area and armpits.
  4. At this stage your puppy should tolerate a bath, dry, brush, face trim, nails cut and ears cleaned. They will be ready for their big girl/boy cut.

If you have a puppy (up to 6 months of age) and wish to book their first appointment with us please get in touch today!  Pricing dependent on breed.

Teeth cleaning professionals

If you own a dog you’ll know the expense that comes from teeth cleaning at your veterinary practice. Costs can run into the hundreds of pounds as vets typically sedate prior to undertaking any teeth cleaning… but the services on offer at Madrina are different.

As CleanyTeeth professionals, we use silent and vibration-free ultrasonic cleaning techniques with CleanyTeeth technology which means that we don’t need to resort to sedation or anaesthetic. Instead, we ensure that your dog will remain calm and relaxed throughout the process – and what’s more, our services cost a fraction of those eye-watering vet’s fees.

Take a look at what can be achieved with our ultrasonic teeth cleaning!

A Dog-centric grooming environment, always

Our dog grooming salon in Onchan is a beacon of peace and tranquillity… until we open, that is! But despite the unusual sights and sounds of the salon such as our baths and dryers, we strive to offer a calming and comfortable environment for your dog.  That means plenty of breaks during their groom as well as appetising treats to keep them happy throughout. And it goes without saying that every dog that comes to us is treated with as much love and care as if they were our own.  We will always strive to provide the best levels of care and attention for your dog at every groom. That’s our promise.

Welfare of the dogs in our care

Our responsibility is first and foremost to the dogs in our care. Sometimes that calls for difficult decisions. To support us in those decisions, we ask that all of our clients sign a disclaimer prior to any grooming appointment, allowing us to take whatever grooming measures are necessary to ensure that your dog is happy and healthy.

This is because sometimes a dog’s coat can hide all manner of ills. There are many breeds that require regular upkeep in between grooms in order to prevent matting of the dogs coat.  Matts occur when the dogs fur clumps and tangles together, creating a solid mass. If left untreated, these matts can become breeding grounds for bacteria, they can pull on the hair roots causing sores and even bleeding, all hidden by the dog’s coat.

At Madrina Professional Pet Grooming we hate to see any animal suffer.  So we will do all that we can to help soothe and treat any severe matts. If we cannot brush out the matts, either because they are too severe or because it causes too much discomfort, we must resort to cutting them out. This may result in a closer groom than owners initially expect but understand that this is only undertaken in severe circumstances, and we will always advise of the actions necessary before we undertake them.

“Freddy DOES NOT STAY STILL. But Sue still manage to groom our boy to absolute perfection at every visit. What’s more, he is completely zen when we collect him too, and sleeps all afternoon! Can you groom him every day?!”
